On June 13, 2014 the spacecraft “Shenzhou X” had its first docking with “Tiangong-1”. There were two strong rays from the “Shenzhou X” providing illumination for the optical sensor of the observation and control for the docking of the two spacecrafts. It is reported that the LED spotlight used for this “Space Kiss” was developed by Shanghai Technology and Physics Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
During the docking, the LED spotlight assembled on the “Shenzhou X” emitted two light rays, which produced a strong light effect of minimum100 lumen/W and provided illumination for the optical sensor of the observation and control for the docking of the two spacecrafts. Thus the “Shenzhou X” was able to target at the “Tiangong-1” to accomplish the precise “Space Kiss”.
China is the first country who introduced the LED light outside the spaceship carbin, said Zhaotao who is a research associate from Shanghai Technology and Physics Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences. We have been utilizing LED flood light outside the spaceship carbin since the launch of “Shenzhou VII”.
